Underlayment in Mobile Home?
by: Anthony

I have never had the need to use a moisture barrier in a mobile home. Mobile homes are usually up off the ground so there isn't much threat from moisture.
The only exception would be an obvious moisture problem under the mobile home such as setting water or something like that. I have had clients in mobile homes that wanted the moisture barrier anyway and I did use it.
I have done many jobs where I use the laminate with the attached padding. I installed it right over the plywood sub floor, without a moisture barrier.
If you were installing the laminate on a concrete slab then you would need the 6 mil moisture barrier.

Hope this helps, Anthony Garrison

damp-proof moisture barrier with attached pad to flooring
by: DeeDee

I bought at Lowe's and getting ready to install Allen + Roth 10mm Maple with padding attached in a Mobile Home. I am confused about directions. Some say install a thin layer plastic moisture barrier and some say no. The instructions with the box of flooring does say: "If the underlayment is pre-mounted on the panels, then only use the damp-proof moisture barrier with adhesive tape as provided." BUT, there is no moisture barrier with adhesive tape provided with this flooring...Nothing in the boxes except the flooring panels that do have attached underlayment. So, should I buy moisture barrier and put this down and the flooring over it.I look forward to HELP...!!!
