Q- We moved into a house with laminate throughout, in every room except bathroom thank goodness. When the big storm went through this summer and we lost power for 1.5 weeks after the ac came back on finally we saw the floor buckling. Why? No water, we figured humidity caused it since there was an abundance of it for almost 2 weeks. Could this have caused it?
A- Yes it is possible that the laminate absorbed the moisture from the high humidity. Some laminate flooring may absorb more then others. Another possibility could be the installation. Do you know if the laminate was installed shortly before you bought the home. If the installers installed it too close to the walls or door jambs it might have happened anyway. This problem may be able to be fixed. You need to know where the flooring is touching the walls so it can be taken up and cut some off the edges.
